Kasser Synths designs and hand-builds the DAFM synth series in Santander, Spain: portable FM synthesizers built around real Yamaha sound chips, not software emulations. The DAFM Genesis runs on the YM2612 or YM3438 of the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis, the DAFM Arcade on the YM2151 (OPM) heard in classic arcade boards and the Sharp X68000, and the DAFM Blaster on the YMF262 (OPL3) of 1990s PC sound cards.

These chips were made by Yamaha in Japan, and many of the composers who made them sing worked there too, so sending the real hardware back feels right. This page collects everything a buyer in Japan needs: the models, the shipping cost and how import duties work, in English and in Japanese.

Real chips, not emulation

Every DAFM carries an original Yamaha FM chip on the board, so what you hear is the actual silicon, not a plugin imitating it. All models have MIDI input and MIDI CC control of the chip parameters, OLED displays, a 12-note tactile keyboard, SD card preset storage and USB power (5V, Type B). Every DIY kit always includes the real Yamaha chip: you never have to hunt for one yourself. The kits use through-hole parts, the build guides are linked from each Tindie listing, and if you prefer not to solder you can order the synth fully assembled.
