From Tessellations & Copper to FM Sounds
Today I wanted to tell you the story behind Kasser Synths. Before we ever dreamed of starting this journey, there were wooden puzzles, antique tiles, and long German winters.
In his youth, just before his father passed away, Abraham would spend hours with him crafting geometric patterns out of wood. They were tessellations—shapes that fit together with a handmade soul, full of quiet intention and precision.
At the same time, I was fascinated by the tiles in old houses. I could stare at them for hours, mesmerized by how the same shapes repeated endlessly—silent, hypnotic, pure. Those patterns left a mark on me.
It was 2016, Wiesbaden and it all started as a hobby, with paper circuits, Arduinos, copper tape… Abraham used to create several interactive canvas projects with Lucia, our oldest daughter (she was 2 years old at that moment). This small experiments that gradually filled our home with light and color. Little by little, we decorated the walls with their inventions. Bit by bit video games started to find their way into those pieces, using the sound chips. All this artwork is part of a project called: Tessellated-circuits-made-of-colored-metals. From Dream to Design: The First Synthesizer
In early 2018 he had the idea to build a synthesizer for himself using the Mega Drive sound chip (that console that he always wanted to have as a child, but never had). I joined him in the design process sharing creative ideas, and Abraham took them into physical form, sourcing materials until we found the textures and finishes we liked. We were especially inspired by tessellations, cubes, hexagons, and patterns that repeat and play with dimension. It took nearly a year to finish that first synth, and when it was finally done, we loved it so much that we decided to start selling them. Then the whole scaling process began.
Two Engineers, One Shared Vision
We’re both chemical engineers by training, but Abraham has always been passionate about electronics, programming (and of course, video games) and I have always loved design and interior decoration (and I also spent many hours of my teenage years in coin-op arcades). We wanted the synth to be compact, minimal, and to evoke the feeling of those consoles we grew up with. And also, something that invites you to play, to create weird and playful sounds, and to tap into that deep nostalgia of childhood hours spent listening to video game music. At the same time, we wanted it to be something you’d be proud to keep on your studio desk, or even out in your living room. A little piece of functional art that helps you connect with that mysterious part of the creative process.
Even though we started without any formal music training, with lots of passion, late nights, study, and experimentation, we’ve created a brand we truly love. And we hope it keeps growing by and for nostalgic souls like us. We try to make Kasser Synths honest and fun, and we really appreciate the involvement and feedback from buyers. We often test the prototypes while our daughters draw next to us and therefore every synth we send out carries a bit of that spirit, handcrafted from scratch.
The DAFM SYNTHS Series: A Timeline
The DAFM SYNTHS series began in 2018 with the GENESIS (whose heart is the chip of that console that Abraham dreamed of having as a child). After covid 19 came the ARCADE in 2020, capturing the unmistakable sound of the coin-op machines we played as teens. The BLASTER followed in 2021 (with the unforgettable sound of PC games) in the same year our youngest daughter Alba was born. All three are available in their DIY version, designed for those who like to solder and enjoy creating their own synthesizer.
What’s Next: The DAPSG Series and the Master System Legacy
Now we’re bringing to life a project that’s been in the «future projects» folder for a while, which is a new series, the DAPSG, powered by the legendary chip from the Master System, a console that played a big role in Abraham’s childhood.
Moreover, Abraham has a lot of new crazy ideas to test and develope (introducing interactice fun tools powered by the AI unlimited potencial). Stay tuned because this journey is in the NEXT STAGE moment (the time is the limit, haha).
More Than a Product: A Philosophy of Joy. Try DAFM SYNTHS!
Kasser Synths wasn’t born from a single idea. It was shaped by many small passions coming together and the joy of the unexpected. The chip is the final boss, so it had to be fully visible. That’s why we gave it its own window, no secrets, no shame. Like a rare item glowing in a treasure chest. Dare to dive in?
If you’re curious…give to DAFM SYNTHS a try, it might spark a new (and trust me very satisfying) addiction for you. Thank you for your support and for taking the time to get to know us.
